-3

I was tagged by two amazing and talented women--Melanie of Navylane Studio and Liz of Be Present, Be Here--to particpate in a Three Things Meme. I had a lot of fun thinking up this list, and I'm so grateful that they both thought of me!

3 Things You Wish For (Just for you…):
1. convert the balcony upstairs into a long, window-lined sunroom where I could go to write and read
2. a great babysitter so that Lou and I could have a weekly "date night" out
3. an inground pool in the backyard, and lush, professional landscaping

3 Things You Would Do To/For Yourself If There Was No One To Judge You (…or if you had the guts to do it!) NOTE: am changing this--I am usually like a bull in a china shop and charge into things without worrying about being judged--often to regret later; I'm making this Things I Would Do If I Was Guaranteed A Good Outcome:
1. Fly
2. Go on Survivor
3. Drive in the downtown of a major city

3 Bad Habits You Have:
1. Talk too much
2. Get obsessive about the computer
3. Buy books when I already have a zillion things to read

3 Insecurities You Feel (all, ironically, related to speech--in previous life, before children, was a speech therapist):
1. I worry that I mispronounce words (know what they mean because I'm a reader, but say them wrong; i.e. andouille, vellum, Reisling, matte)
2. I worry that I talk too fast (which I do)
3. I worry that I'll be misinterpreted

3 Talents/Skills You Wish You Had:
1. to be bilingual
2. to be able to sing well
3. to be coordinated enough to do aerobics

3 Things That You Would Do If You Had More Time
(can't answer; I really try to make time for the things that I want to do)

3 Things That Bring You Peace/Relaxation:
1. hot bath
2. Xanax
3. sleep

3 Things That Spark Your Creativity:
1. reading anything by Julia Cameron or Natalie Goldberg
2. traveling by myself
3. cooking

I tag:
I'm not going to tag anyone because I just did a meme where I tagged seven people and I feel that the list of those who might want to "play along" is dwindling*. HOWEVER, I would love it if you all "tagged" yourselves, if you feel comfortable sharing!

*also, this nearly started a brawl on Cubicle Reverend's website.

These are great. I can totally relate to the worry about mispronouncing words. I like to read things out loud to my husband but sometimes I turn into phonix (is that how you even spell that?) girl trying to figure out how to say a word. And yes, I buy books too even though I have plenty I have not even read yet. I am learning that the library is my friend...
Love that you already make time for the things that are important to you. Yes. That is fantastic.

....sorry about the brawl....laughing....

Loved your answers and as far as I am concerned you could do a meme a day and I would be fascinated each and every time. You are amazing.

a.

P.S wish you could help me with my youngest and his speech. He was deaf till he was 3 and we never knew it...read our lips. Long story.

These are great! I think that you will laugh when you read my post tomorrow because I have been tagged with the same tag. I loved your answers - now I have a lot to live up to! (Could you please tell me what Meme means?!)

I think traveling alone inspired my creativity too. It's nice to have the space to think.

I died laughing at these...because some of them fit me too.

I use words like behooves and shall in my everyday language, it drives people nuts. They think I am a snob.

Is it maaattee. Long a and an e, is that how you say it?

It was neat to see how you answered these.

Very cool list indeed. I always learn something interesting about when you do your posts.

With your worries about your speech, it's a good thing you are a writer and not a public speaker! ;)

BTW, a meme (pronounced meem) is simply the transfer or sharing of information from one person to another.

Read ya' later!

I'm notorious for that mispronouncing words thing, because I so often read words before I hear them. Dare I admit how long I mentally pronounced the word "clandestine" like "candle-steen" before I heard it aloud for the first time? (Yes, I was also transposing letters in there. Heh.)

Great list, Cate!

I see that one of the things you would do if guaranteed a good outcome is drive downtown in a major city....
thank you:)

Liz,
"I am learning that the library is my friend." Oh, this is so good! I must do that, too, although I struggle with the overwhelming need to possess ALL books. Maybe I want to BE the library? Thanks for reminding me that it's an ally! I'm going to head over there today!

Andrea,
Oh, your poor little man! If you want to email me about that, I'd love to listen. And if you don't want to, just know that I'm thinking of you guys and here if you ever want to talk.

I loved your brawl (I had sooo many comments that day, what with you two going back and forth!). At least YOU acknowledge it. Your counterpart seems to feel that it's an x-files thing. If he denies it vehemently enough, it never happened! xo

CR,
"Brawl"--"good natured fun," same difference. And you don't expect me to believe for a second that sweet, lovely natured Andrea started it?!

You're next in the sock line up!

Megg,
I see that Human Z already defined "meme" for us. WHO KNEW? I loved your list, by the way!

Stephanie,
It's nice to hear that other people "get" the traveling gig. I've written stories in my head during long car trips--too bad I haven't learned to get them on paper as soon as I arrive!

Ckays,
I feel like I'm in good company as far as mispronunciation is concerned! I think it's "mat" like a floor rug, but don't trust me on that! I don't want to bring you down with this sinking ship (ME!)!

Human Z,
Thanks for the definition. I would've said "me--me," so you can see how my mispronunciation woes continue . . . also, I agree that it's a good thing I'm not a public speaker, something I absolutely do not enjoy!

Tanya,
The power of Xanax cannot be underestimated. A real nice coping mechanism, everyonceinawhile, as far as I'm concerned!

Deb,
Thank you, thank you, thank you! This has to be an affliction of voracious readers. I will never see the word "clandestine" again without smiling. I remember going to see "Romancing the Stone" with a friend when I was around 12 and I kept calling Kathleen Turner a "heroine" pronounced "her-royne." I still smart over that one.

Rebecca,
You and me, sister, road trip, Manhattan! If we get into trouble, hopefully, Jesus will take the wheel!

I am soooo doing this one. I consider myself tagged. However, half of yours are so close to my answers it may take awhile to come up with something new. :)

Hi Cate and sorry for not having played the fame game, I did not do it on purpose, my Technorati told me very late. I tag when I feel like mentioning inspirational posts. And have switched Xanax to Klonopin... snif I feel bad now. I was searching your achives to quote a o post of yours but I know I am on your shitlist now. My fault. I am so sorry Cate. And you know how much I appreciate you and your writing. Going back to whining home now.
