The Riddler and "R" Ramblings, Inspired By Deb
Recreation: New bikes for both boys=long evening rides in the alley behind our house. Perhaps a foray along the canal that runs through town tonight?
Restaurants: Just one, Dutch's Daughter, for their Sunday Brunch. The tomatoes in our garden have ripened and we have been devouring large quantities of homemade salsa and bruschetta. No need for dining out . . . at least, not until the sink is full of all of our dishes.
Reading: "Worth More Dead" by Ann Rule; "Anastasia Krupnik" by Lois Lowry; "Local Girls" by Alice Hoffman; "The Lost Mother" by Mary McGarry Morris; July/August issue of Poets & Writers magazine
Writing: Morning Pages religiously (for three days! HA!); working on a short story; have decided that work ethic in writing is as important as creativity, talent--am truly devoting myself to daily assignments to keep the words flowing. Have felt empty lately. Discouraged. Am worried about my lack of direction. I finally decided last night that the way through this is to write. Just keep writing. We'll see where this new mindset takes me.
Rat Race: Back to work in August, a day and a half a week, as the "extra" speech pathologist at the elementary school that is two blocks from my house. One son will be in kindergarten there, the other will be in the part-time, "three year old program." Pretty ideal for our family right now. I'm excited!
Respite: Off, with my man, to The Algonquin Hotel in NYC in early August for a couple of days of shows, sightseeing, and dining. We are soooo looking forward to this trip, our first vacation together--just the two of us--in a few years! Suitcases filled with clothes and a sketchbook and a notebook. Can't wait to meet Matilda, a cat who resides in the hotel and oversees the comings and goings of the guests. Luxurious beds and "cozy" rooms. It doesn't get much better . . .
And finally . . .

Riddler: Me, in my suit, as "captured" by Deb! What a wonderfully talented (multi-talented) and thoughtful friend she is. If you have not seen her work, go to Red Shoe Ramblings immediately--you will not be sorry! Quilts, poetry, photographs, drawings, interior design. When I say she does it all, I mean, she DOES IT ALL!

Like your R's. Happy Fourth!
Cate - you make a stunning super-villan! You must save this to put up at your kids' weddings some day. :) That Deb, she's somethin' else!
Thanks for sharing the bit about the discipline of writing. That's how I feel these days - not motivated but wanting to move forward and see progress. Thanks for setting a good example as one working through the "fog".
What a gReat list!
And I'm glad you like the Riddler pic. I had Too Much Fun doing that. Just wait 'til you see who I've "cast" myself as for tomorrow's self-portrait challenge entry. :-)
I'm just beginning to realize that I need a work ethic with writing as well. It's always been something I do to feed my soul, therefore, it only happens when the urge strikes. The difference now is that I'm hungrier for words.
Great book list. Is this your first Alice Hoffman book? If so, have I got a list for you. :) I adore her work and own almost everything she's ever written.
Great list, cate. The picture was the best bit of all, and well worth waiting for I say!
You must have had such fun. I bet your kids are killing themselves with laughter (or embarassment).
Like the sound of the home-grown tomatoes. :)
I love your Riddler photo ~ it suits you!!
I also love your list and the Algonquin Hotel bar has been the respite for me and my man after many Broadway shows. There's also the other, fancy hotel (white, modern looking, what is that name?) up the block on the right that has a lovely bar. I can't remember the name but you can't miss it.
Gosh, it sounds likes things are going soooo well!
Glad you're going to plug away and write on through.
btw You make for a radiant villainesse. :-)
Ha ha ha, now that's funny. Riddle me this... how has your work been coming along?
That picture is HILARIOUS! Look how cute you are! Even in the get-up, you look like a young Doris Day, for crayin' out loud! LOL(And she is a favorite beauty of mine.)
And Deb IS so good at picture magic. ;)
:)
Lol, she is a crack up!! Too funny, I love it!
Great job on the daily writing. I am so glad you are taking the time just for you.
Hugs,
a.
Love the list and the pic! So cute!
I would love some homemade salsa! YUM!
xoxo
Good "R" ruminatios! And the picture. How darling! I'm jealous about your NYC trip. I'd love to be doing that!

Hahaha! Love the pic! Also, I couldn't agree more about the importance of work ethic in writing. Think of all the words that would never have been written if someone didn't force themselves to sit their butt down and write. It works! And then you keep the good stuff, and more good stuff grows out of it, like magic. Yay!
This was a great list.. and it sounds like there are a lot of wonderful things in your world to look forward to!! How great! I'm really jealous about the Algonquin.. I have always wanted to stay there!!
I need a Riddler costume! If I had one, I'd wear it everywhere. Really, I would.
Loved the list, especially Respite. Haven't been away alone with my husband for a long while, so I can relate (another "R" word!).
The writing will come--it always does. Just keep moving forward and the words will flow.
