A List (Because I Have Nothing Else, Really, To Say)

In the past year, I have learned:

-that googling medical symptoms is not generally a good idea;
-to be less judgmental about some things, and
-more judgemental about others;
-that, if I take action with a goal, I am capable of achieving it;
-that boundaries are very important;
-that I lean towards shades of excrement when selecting room colors for my house;
-that I prefer small sketchbooks and colored pencils over paint and chalk;
-that I need to work on narrative;
-that my husband is the kind of person who I'd like to be;
-my children will probably be smarter than me (and in some ways, already are)
-that my mother can knit anything, and I mean anything, that I ask her to;
-that I will always prefer beer to wine;
-about Humanzee;
-to make a savory potato-leek soup;
-what a difference a new shower curtain can make;
-that I take a lot for granted;
-that if I ask Him for help, I will get it;
-that it is, indeed, possible to over-highlight short hair;
-to appreciate each day, each hour, each minute;
-to accept that there are no guarantees;
-that hotel room vacations with small children are a silly idea and more trouble than they are worth;
-that Michael Galasso's music makes me feel calm
-that I love the art of LS Lowry;
-that solar flares exist and occur quite often;
-that the book "PoemCrazy" is as soothing as Michael Galasso's music;
-that, if I live in the moment, take a Xanax and have a couple of drinks, I just might be able to board a plane and fly one day;
-that my idea of a good vacation involves a bonfire on the beach, a lobster bake, and a rambling ocean front Victorian;
-that Vince Vaughn is the king of improv.

Dude, what's the Humanzee? Should I google it?

Stephanie,
You MUST google him. And do an image search, too. He is (was) a controversial chimp/human crossbreed (at least, some say), the so-called "missing link" (I'm so enjoying that I just wrote that!). Researchers conducted a number of experiments on him, and there were complaints that he was being exploited for financial gain. The program I saw about him was actually quite sad.

On a final note, he was really freaky looking. You've gotta let me know what you think.

Hmmm....wikipedia says he's genetically a chimpanzee. The whole thing strikes me as really sad as you say.

Love your list. Vince Vaughn rules. Probably going to watch Wedding Crashers tonight. -- "You shut your mouth when you talk to me." I know its not Vince but it is definately one of my favorite lines in the movie.

Hope 2006 brings many more positive learning experiences.

Pearl,
Yes, husbands can be wonderful, can't they? My husband and I learned to strike a balance this year and it has been amazing (makes up for a lot of bumps in the past!). Here's to yours and mine!

Human Z,
I'm so jealous. Maybe I'll watch Wedding Crashers, too. And you nearly made me snort beer when I read the "you shut your mouth" line. Good one. You always make me laugh. Hope you learn a lot of Clark Griswald kinds of things in 2006 yourself!

Absolutely adore your list! It is amazing to me how someone can jot down a few random things about themselves and still share so much of their life.

Enjoyed your list. Baylor led me here and I'm glad she did.

Ritapita,
I have a tendency to share too much personal info., the stuff no one really wants to know. So I appreciate that you liked the list! Hope J is feeling better (and you're taking care of yourself, too).

Wenda,
I'm so glad you stopped by. I adore Baylor--have rarely met anyone as spirited and insightful and kind as her (though she does have a foul mouth, ehhh? HAHA). I hope you come back!

Cracked up at your comment above! xoxo

I really enjoyed your list! Very insightful and I have learned many of these things this year as well. Although, you are much more the jack of all trades than me!

cate,

J is doing just fine and he thinks it is hilarious that people he doesn't know ask about his urinary track system so much!

I do the same thing.. sharing to much info. But what the hell, we have nothing to hide, right?!

WHERE did you come across LS Lowry? Never saw his(?) art before. I love it. Fantastic. LS Lowry, the Dan Band - you are quite the source.

AG,

In the "Child's Book of Art." I'd never heard of him, either, then became obsessed. I made my mother get me a print when she was in Ireland (at that time, the museum wouldn't send to the US). I'm getting it framed today, I think.
