Cel-e-brate Good Times, Come On

After having ridden the wave of rejection for the past five months, I've got a story live at Pindeldyboz. You can read it
here.

Love, love, love those folks at Pindeldyboz. Just love'em.

(P.S. I'm still on the rejection wave; that story was accepted last Summer. Don't think for a second I'm getting cocky on you.)

Congrats on the story. Heck, Steinbeck had a stack of rejection slips as tall as he was.

Cate,

Congrats on the story. Although I have not been commenting lately, I have been visiting. Maybe for a selfish reason, but sometimes I just need a smile. Your writing does this to me.

Your writing is a joy. I can actually experience what you do through your writing. Absolutely magical! Always makes my day a happy one.

Read ya' later!

Congrats Cate! Yay you!

I like the story.

And FWIW, someone who has been submitting stuff for a long time once told me that any artist (whether writer, visual, whatever) who doesn't have enough rejection letters to paper their bathroom isn't doing enough work. ;-)

Take care of quantity, god will take care of quality. That is one of my favorite quotes, it keeps me going when I feel crushed. You have so much potential, you are so there.
I hope you don't mind I saved your story. Funny thing, I got lost in it... I forgot it was a story, I forgot who wrote it.. with a shock I remembered at the end when I saw "About the Author"
Author, that is you! Look, that is you!!
I'm going to drop this in the email for my cousin. She is one of the judges for the "Paul Gillette Writing Contest", Pikes Peak Writer's Conference in April.

Cate,

Congratulations! Woohoo! I just read the piece and it had me laughing. It all sounded TOO familiar ... especially the wrinkles part. LOL!

Good writing!

When I saw all of these comments, I felt like I had stumbled in on a little party in my honor. What generous, amazing people you all are. Thank you.

CR,
Although I usually keep track of famous writers' rejection records (makes me feel better), I wasn't aware that Steinbeck had received many rejections. WOW. Thanks for that info. and the congrats!

Human Z,
What a lovely comment! It meant a lot to me. You are so supportive and I am lucky to have you as a friend.

Deb,
Thanks for the comment. I really appreciate it. And I love the quote about rejection. So true! To cope with them, I told myself last year that I was "shooting" for 500; that way, every time I got one, at least I was one step closer to meeting my goal :)

Stephanie,
I am so flattered that you read/liked my story. Your comment was lovely. Thank you.

Baylor,
Thank you so much for cheering for me! And I hope you are feeling better--no more bird flu! Hugs!

Ldahl,
Oh, your words invigorated my spirit (that sounds stupid, but I was so touched!). I am honored to have had you save my story--thank you. And I'm going to look into that contest. Thanks very much for the information! Hugs!

Pearl,
Thank you for your comment. Submit, submit, submit--I feel like it's all I do. It's so nice on the rare moments that something falls into place. And congrats. on YOUR poem winning the contest. That was an incredible accomplishment.

Tanya,
Thank you for the comment and the wonderful post on your site. I saw it last night and nearly stared to bawl. That was so generous of you . . . and I am incredibly appreciative.

Joely Sue,
Thanks for stopping by. And thanks for lovely compliment. As you said in your New Year's post--may 2006 be rich with words and story!

Michelle,
I've been thinking about you and the new job a lot. Thanks for the great comment--it means so much to me, coming from you, a person who weaves words together brilliantly to create amazing poetry. You are MY hero.

Cliff,
Thanks for the visit and for the comment. I'm looking forward to reading your review of "Hannan and the Mountain" on MoorishGirl.

Here's a post I did on working poets, (writers with day jobs) a lot of them spent most of their lives just doing there jobs, doing writing at night, and not really doing anything with it. Some saw fame in their life times, others not so much.

Ldahl,
Thank you so much for showing it to your cousin--I'm relishing that lovely compliment!

And when I'm on Oprah, getting "snaps" for my Pulitzer-winning book of short stories, I'll be sure to mention my Caldecott/Newberry-awarded friend, Ldahl, who just happens to have had numerous art exhibitions at the MoMA (and won her Pulitzer, the year before I got mine!).

I haven't visited in a while and LOOK at all you've been up to! The story is amazing (they always are). And your list of credits grows impressively. Don't even think about those rejections girl. They are just stepping stones paving your way to fame. I love you! You are fantastic!

Hi,

Really great story - and well done on getting published, that's maybe the hardest part of the whole writing process.

Just going to add that as a goal on the 43things website.
